-=Gay Marriage=-
So I've been doing a little research on the whole gay marriage issue. On one side we have those who define marriage as a union between a man and a woman-- and something about procreation (and it gets a little fuzzy around the married but infertile/without children). Then on the other side we have those who define marriage as a union between two people who love each other (romantic &/or sexual love).

In terms of a civil union/marriage, I'm all for gay marriages. If we define marriage as the union of two people who love and care for each other, in all meaning of the word love (emotionally/intellectually/sexually/whateverly), then what should prevent two people (let's say 'of age individuals' instead), from becoming married. As I understand, there are many "gay marriages", not the legal ones, just the ceremonies. So, these two people consider themselves married and life-long partners. One begs to ask the question then, what does it matter whether the law says you are married or not? Well, first as I'm learning, there are numerous economic gains (I guess easier on taxes?), and many other material gains. Also, back in the days of slavery, most slave "families" were never considered "families" since neither the church nor the law viewed these slave marriages as legal marriages. But, once slaves were free, many became married under the law. Aside from political/economic gains, it doesn't seem like much has changed. However, as humans we feel this need for approval, and this need to have those most intangible (love), we stamped and sealed as truth (marriage license).
