-=ahh... grades=-
I hate the end of the quarters! We always have so many freaking tests. ugh, but I guess that's just the way it goes. At least I'm remembering to study, unlike Monday when I totally forgot about that math test (but I still got a 92, wahoo). Its just so annoying how grades are so important, yet it's really more important that you know the information and are able to manipulate it, not get A's on scan trons. But here's the great thing about once we graduate from high school, college, law school, med school, etc, we can just pay people to do things for us. If we need our taxes done (math), we can call an accountant. If we need a physical (science.. sorta), we can call a doctor. If we need a speech (english) we can call a speech writer. If for some odd reason we need to know what happened in the War of 1812 (history), we can call a historian. If we need something translated (foreign languages), we can call a linguist. Now I guess we just gotta pick something to do. wahoo.

Oldies

-=Oldies
You can't be the oldies, no not stuff our parents listen to (although that is good stuff too), I'm talking about the Ella Fitzgeralds, the Louis Armstrongs, the James Deans... Dean had the looks to melt any girl, Louis' voice could stop Times Square, and Ella, well, no one can match Ella's talent. Sure, we have some awesome bands, artists, actors, and the like, but half of the crap they make is close to the art of yesteryear. The other half is garbage they unfortunately need to make in order to keep up with the competition. Movies back then, though lacking in special effects and provocative sex scenes, were pretty awesome. Everyone now and then I prefer watching a pretty much wholesome movie, as opposed to watching a blow out their guts action movie. But then again, that's just me.

-=Philosophy Students!=-
LHS PHILOSOPHY STUDENTS come to a discussion group on November 12 in Mrs. Lawlor's room (108). This will be the first meeting for the club so I'm not promising anything. For the moment, only students in philosophy can attend, but by the next meeting or so anyone will be able to come. Once things get under way we'll decide on a name (possibly Socrates Cafe), and decide on all the good stuff, like possible discussions at Starbucks. Please stop by Lawlor's room and sign up so we have a general idea of how many people will be coming.

Here's the 411 on it:
*Be prepared to "define yourself" for the first meeting.
*We only want philosophy students at the moment because the philosophy kids understand the way discussion go in class, plus we can further discuss anything from class.
*Most likely the only form of bribes will be food or coffee. Extra credit won't happen because we want kids who want to come on their own accord, not because they expect to get a better grade.
*We'll discuss anything you want to from class, which of course will lead to random topics, which is perfectly fine. However, let's try to steer away from heated discussions about religion, unless you all agree to actually discuss not berate each other.
*After the first meeting or two, we'll talk about opening up the club since this will be a great opportunity for you to bring friends along.
*You'll only get out of this what you put in, so don't be afraid to speak up. This is perfect for those of you who for whatever reason don't speak up in class, or finally have a revelation after class and want to share it.
*No one will judge you. Half the time we are changing our believes or ideas midway through discussions, so don't be afraid to change your opinion.

~*Finally, if you have any questions/comments/concerns find Veronica or me in the halls or stop by and leave a note with Lawlor.

Hope to see you there!

School

-=School=-
So wow, it's still not totally sunken in that we're juniors... it's pretty strange, looking around school realizing that there is only one grade above me, and two under. Things feel different, that's for sure. The pressure to be perfect, skinny, beautiful, and lady-like is still as present as it ever has, but now college is another pressure. Honestly, I have no idea what I want to be. I say I wanna be a lawyer, or maybe a diplomat, but many, if not most, college freshmen change their majors. Maybe you already know what you want to be... that's great if you do, but don't close your mind to other ideas.
Some days I really want to do something big and important, like international diplomacy. But there are those days when all I want to do is teach kids. And then there are the days when I just want to sing like a pop star, live like one, and be one. Meh, I'll figure it out one day, and if I never do, it doesn't matter, as long as I'm living with few complaints.
